Supernatural gives us an intense mid-season finale in “O Brother Where Art Thou?” Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) convinces his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) that they need to at least talk to the Devil, even if they don’t make a deal with him. It’s fantastic to see Mark Pellegrino back on Supernatural. Padalecki and Pellegrino, along with the outstanding set designers, transported us during the scene in Hell. The scenes between Dean and Amara (Emily Swallow) brought their own surprises. “O Brother Where Art Thou” also brought our favorite mother-and-son team back together. You can never get too much Rowena (Ruth Connell) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard). It was fun to have so much focus on several different baddies in Supernatural.

In the Season 9 finale of Doctor Who, “Hell Bent” the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) plays a song of remembrance.
In “Hell Bent,” Doctor Who returns to the desert, causing a coup in Gallifrey and revisiting America for a last goodbye. It’s taken billions of years, but the Doctor has finally returned to Gallifrey for a less-than-joyful reunion with his fellow Time Lords. In “Hell Bent” it’s revealed that the struggle the Doctor endured in “Heaven Sent” was less about keeping the secret of the hybrid and more about establishing a bargaining chip to save Clara. Peter Capaldi uses his impressive ability to convey intensity and power even while being still, increasing the drama of “Hell Bent.”
Supernatural S11E08 Recap: Just My Imagination

In Season 11, Episode 8 of Supernatural, “Just My Imagination,” we get a Monster of the Week episode in which the monster isn’t quite what you’d expect. “Just My Imagination” was both funny and heartfelt. The episode didn’t move the Season 11 story arc along very much, but allowed for some emotional moments grounded in Sam’s fears about his visions and the Cage. “Just My Imagination” was directed by Richard Speight, Jr., who plays Gabriel in the Supernatural series. Speight does a fantastic job playing up the best parts of this humorous tale.

Monster of the Week: The Krampus

The Krampus is a yuletide monster of Alpine lore. He is one of the helpers of St. Nicholas, seeking out naughty children on Krampusnacht, the eve of St. Nicholas’ Day (December 6). He acts as the anti-St. Nick, frightening, and sometimes punishing—or even abducting—badly behaved children.
The Krampus, whose name likely derives from krampen, the Old High German word for claw, is of mostly humanoid form, though exceptionally furry, similar to a satyr. He has large, pointy ears, a bull’s tail, and big goaty horns. The Krampus has one normal foot and one cloven hoof, but his most distinguishing characteristic may be his huge red tongue, which perpetually lolls out of his mouth. Krampus will often carry a large sack in which to haul away bad children, though sometimes a washtub, basket or other conveyance is used. Along with a sack, his accoutrements often include chains, bells, and a ruten (a birch-twig switch) or whip. Continue reading
