In “Bury Me Here,” The Walking Dead begins and ends with Carol and Morgan. Both find themselves exactly in the positions they’ve been avoiding as the agreement between the Kingdom and the Saviors starts to unravel. Ezekiel has been desperately clinging to the arrangement with the Saviors in order to keep his people safe, while Richard has been looking for a way to undermine the one-sided agreement. “Bury Me Here” serves as the death knell for the tenuous peace Ezekiel had brokered for the Kingdom. Supernatural S12E15 Review: Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell
6
We won’t feign excitement about every episode of Supernatural, but we do enjoy quite a lot of them. And then there are those we love. “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell” proves that Supernatural just gets better with age. Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), Misha Collins (Castiel), and Mark Sheppard (Crowley) know their characters so well that they can tell us more with a downcast look or monosyllabic word than most TV actors can with an entire monologue. “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell,” written by Davy Perez and directed by Nina Lopez-Corrado, tells a scary story with an exciting twist and a few winks at the audience. Continue reading
The Walking Dead S07E12 Review: Say Yes
0
The Walking Dead gives Rick and Michonne some much-needed alone time in “Say Yes.” For a bit there, it even feels like time stands still for these two lovebirds. They share some sweet and funny moments while out on their run, but at the end, reality finally sets in. While Rick and Michonne take a moment to enjoy their time together before the war against the Saviors begins, Rosita simply can’t wait any longer. “Say Yes” is directed by Greg Nicotero and written by Matthew Negrete.
Supernatural S12E14 Review: The Raid
3
In “The Raid,” Supernatural picks up where “Family Feud” left off. Sam and Dean are still absorbing the news that their mom is working with the British Men of Letters. The conflict between Mary and her sons is brought to screen beautifully by writer Robert Berens and director John MacCarthy. The strain among the Winchester clan underlies the tension between the British Men of Letters and the American hunters. If you think vampires are scary, wait until you get a load of Dean Winchester hurt by his mother’s betrayal. Continue reading
The Walking Dead S07E11 Review: Hostiles and Calamities

The Walking Dead returns to the dreadful Sanctuary in “Hostiles and Calamities.” After being taken by Negan, Eugene learns that the Sanctuary offers both extreme danger and unusual reward. Eugene isn’t the only one trying to negotiate a difficult situation at the Sanctuary, as Dwight finds himself dealing with the aftermath of Daryl’s escape. “Hostiles and Calamities” was directed by Kari Skogland (“The Next World”) and written by David Leslie Johnson (“Swear,” “Triggerfinger,” and “Chupacabra”). The Walking Dead reminds us that life at the Sanctuary is complicated. Continue reading
Supernatural S12E13 Review: Family Feud

Family is complicated. Relatives stir up strong emotions, bringing out our best and our worst. In “Family Feud,” Supernatural gives us an intense episode that’s all about the good, the bad, and the ugly of kin. Supernatural presents several intermingled narratives reminding us that dealing with family is never easy. “Family Feud” introduces a new Prince of Hell, Dagon, who is focused on Lucifer’s unborn child. Crowley’s son Gavin MacLeod, a Prince of Hell of a different kind, reappears after three seasons. Continue reading
The Walking Dead S07E10 Review: New Best Friends
3
The Walking Dead finally gives us the reunion we’ve been hoping for in “New Best Friends.” The focus is on the Kingdom and a new Borg-like group known as The Scavengers, making for a very interesting episode. A war with the Saviors is on the horizon; it’s just a matter of who will join and when. “New Best Friends” shows us that the enemy of my enemy might be my friend, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Continue reading

Dean and Sam on a Japanese game show in “Changing Channels”
Sam and Dean Winchester have kept fans engaged through 12 seasons of Supernatural. The series’ passionate fanbase has helped ensure its continued renewal by the CW. It’s possible the series could persist as long as actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles want to keep playing the Winchester brothers. Supernatural keeps fans under its spell through creative storytelling and innovative ideas, grounded in emotional family moments. What other series could tell a story about two brothers hunting monsters from the perspective of a car called “Baby”? Their unconventional approach has helped Supernatural sustain its appeal, even after a dozen years. Continue reading
Supernatural S12E12 Review: Stuck in the Middle (With You)

In “Stuck in the Middle (With You),” Mary Winchester leads a demon hunt that doesn’t go quite as planned. Mary has her own agenda that Sam and Dean are unaware of. If Supernatural has taught us anything, it’s that Winchesters keeping secrets from each other never turns out well. Writer Davy Perez reaches into the series’ past to weave in some intriguing connections to the present, including an unexpected Crowley backstory. “Stuck in the Middle (With You)” was directed by Richard Speight, Jr. (Gabriel), who really understands the relationships between all these characters.
