Supernatural S10E16 Recap: Paint It Black

“Paint it Black,” the 16th episode of Supernatural Season 10, focuses on our favorite Queen Mother, Rowena. It’s about time we learned more about Rowena and her past. When we first saw Rowena at the end of “Soul Survivor,” it was clear that her character was going to be interesting. In “Girls, Girls, Girls” we learned that she was a rebellious witch and Crowley’s mum. Since Rowena’s introduction to Supernatural, a bit more about her past has been revealed. “Paint it Black” gives our picture of Rowena a bit more color.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a part of the convention circuit? Who hasn’t? Well, now is your chance to find out through the comedy series Kings of Con. Supernatural actors Rob Benedict (Chuck Shurley/Carver Edlund) and Richard Speight, Jr. (Gabriel) have launched an indiegogo campaign to fund their Kings of Con project through crowdsourcing. Kings of Con will have great appeal for those who have been to Supernatural conventions and other con events.
The Walking Dead S05E15 Recap: Try

Episode 15 of The Walking Dead, “Try,” finds Alexandria at a crossroads. With the deaths of Aiden and Noah in the previous episode, “Spend,” loss and uncertainty reign. The Monroe family is mourning the loss of Aiden. Deanna puts on Aiden’s “Run Mix” and listens to Nine Inch Nails until Reg can’t take it any more. Carol makes a casserole for the family, which she leaves at their door. Deanna doesn’t seem interested in their casseroles or their condolences. Rick, Michonne, Sasha and the others are also mourning the loss of Noah, each in their own ways. In The Walking Dead, death is never as straightforward as a simple loss. In “Try” the deaths of Noah and Aiden have raised a lot of questions for both Rick’s group and the people of Alexandria.

Daryl gets to work recruiting on his new bike
In The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon’s motorcycle has become as iconic as his crossbow. When the prison is attacked during Season 4, Daryl must escape on foot, leaving his bike behind. At the beginning of the episode “Spend,” Daryl drives out of the gates of Alexandria on a newly reassembled motorcycle. Daryl built it out of the parts that Aaron had found in his garage and on the road. Continue reading
Supernatural S10E15 Recap: The Things They Carried

The title of Season 10 Episode 15 of Supernatural, “The Things They Carried,” references a book of the same name by Tim O’Brien that narrates the experiences of a group of American soldiers during the Vietnam War. The short stories describe what these soldiers carried with them while they were out on missions. Some of the objects are physical items they carry in their pockets or on their backs, but they also carry intangible burdens such as feelings of guilt, fear, and anxiety. In Supernatural, Dean continues to carry the affliction of the Mark of Cain, along with the feelings it elicits and experiences it has wrought.

0iZombie S01E01 Review: Pilot

Our usual feeling is that network TV needs another police procedural like a hole in the head, but we’ll make an exception to that rule for a crime-fighting zombie. iZombie comes with the imprimatur of Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero, and the pilot holds up to that expectation, with snappy dialogue and fun characters.
As mentioned in our Sneak Peek, iZombie is based on a comic book (it was kind of exciting to see the big “Vertigo” logo at the end of the show!), and although it diverges from the book quite a lot right off the bat, it still retains some good bits. Our heroine, Liv Moore (Rose McIver), looks quite like Gwen of the comic. And the great title sequence (featuring music by Deadboy and the Elephantmen) is done in comic style by Michael Allred, co-creator and illustrator of the comic book series. Continue reading
