The Walking Dead S07E10 Review: New Best Friends

3

rick-jadus-the-walking-dead-new-best-friendsThe Walking Dead finally gives us the reunion we’ve been hoping for in “New Best Friends.” The focus is on the Kingdom and a new Borg-like group known as The Scavengers, making for a very interesting episode. A war with the Saviors is on the horizon; it’s just a matter of who will join and when. “New Best Friends” shows us that the enemy of my enemy might be my friend, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Dean and Sam on a Japanese game show in “Changing Channels”

Sam and Dean Winchester have kept fans engaged through 12 seasons of Supernatural. The series’ passionate fanbase has helped ensure its continued renewal by the CW. It’s possible the series could persist as long as actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles want to keep playing the Winchester brothers. Supernatural keeps fans under its spell through creative storytelling and innovative ideas, grounded in emotional family moments. What other series could tell a story about two brothers hunting monsters from the perspective of a car called “Baby”? Their unconventional approach has helped Supernatural sustain its appeal, even after a dozen years. Continue reading

Supernatural S12E12 Review: Stuck in the Middle (With You)

9

diner-scene-supernatural-stuck-in-the-middleIn “Stuck in the Middle (With You),” Mary Winchester leads a demon hunt that doesn’t go quite as planned. Mary has her own agenda that Sam and Dean are unaware of. If Supernatural has taught us anything, it’s that Winchesters keeping secrets from each other never turns out well. Writer Davy Perez reaches into the series’ past to weave in some intriguing connections to the present, including an unexpected Crowley backstory. “Stuck in the Middle (With You)” was directed by Richard Speight, Jr. (Gabriel), who really understands the relationships between all these characters. Supernatural S12E10 Review: Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets

2

sam-dean-lily-supernatural-lily-sunder-has-regretsCastiel’s past comes back to haunt him in “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets.” It turns out there are consequences for some actions, whether “comic” or not. Castiel isn’t the only angel who appreciates humans on Supernatural, but he often seems to be in the minority amongst those of the Heavenly realm. Angels have a mixed reputation among the humans as well. In “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets,” Supernatural reminds us once again that angels are just as flawed as humans. Continue reading

Teen Wolf S06E10 Recap: Riders on the Storm

4

lydia-scott-malia-teen-wolf-riders-on-the-stormJust in case we weren’t already feeling sad enough that this is the last season of Teen Wolf, they go ahead and crush it with the fantastic winter finale “Riders on the Storm.” Way to cap off what has been a pretty amazing season, Teen Wolf. There was action, gore, romance, nostalgia, humor, and some of the hardcore emotional bromance that we love in Teen Wolf. What we’re trying to say is that “Riders on the Storm” was good … real good.

Supernatural S12E09 Review: First Blood

5

sam-dean-in-van-supernatural-first-bloodIn “First Blood,” Sam and Dean have been taken by the Secret Service for trying to assassinate the president. Castiel and Mary have no idea how to find them. The black ops imprisonment doesn’t feel like Supernatural, but perhaps that’s the point. Still, we’ll take monster hunts over secret American military installations any day of the week. Despite the incongruence, “First Blood” manages to include a few lines destined to become Supernatural classics, as well as emotional Winchester family moments. “

Teen Wolf S06E09 Recap: Memory Found

4

lydia-scott-malia-teen-wolf-memory-foundIn “Memory Found,” we find that most of Beacon Hills has been trapped in train station oblivion by those pesky Ghost Riders. Scott is determined to remember Stiles so he can bring everyone back. It’s not entirely clear how recovering memories of Stiles has become the Holy Grail of Teen Wolf. If we can’t get the actual Dylan O’Brien on the Teen Wolf set due to his big deal movie career, we might as well settle for a clipshow of his emotional moments throughout the years. Why not? It’s not as if we’ve been rewatching these scenes on YouTube during the Stiles drought. Certainly not.

Teen Wolf S06E08 Recap: Blitzkrieg

3

stiles-claudia-teen-wolf-blitzkriegIn “Blitzkrieg,” the Ghost Riders are conducting a sustained attack on the town of Beacon Hills. As most the town gets picked off, we start to wonder—is this how Teen Wolf is going to end? Will everyone eventually be cast into oblivion, or at least an oblivion-like train station? At first we think, “Oh, Lord, don’t let it end in a train station.” Then we realize that leaving Beacon Hills completely empty, except for a lone banshee living in Eichen House, would kind of be an amazing ending for the Teen Wolf series. And then they all lived as Ghost Riders forever … Continue reading
