Supernatural S11E09 Recap: O Brother Where Art Thou?

Sam Supernatural O Brother Where Art ThouSupernatural gives us an intense mid-season finale in “O Brother Where Art Thou?” Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) convinces his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) that they need to at least talk to the Devil, even if they don’t make a deal with him. It’s fantastic to see Mark Pellegrino back on Supernatural. Padalecki and Pellegrino, along with the outstanding set designers, transported us during the scene in Hell. The scenes between Dean and Amara (Emily Swallow) brought their own surprises. “O Brother Where Art Thou” also brought our favorite mother-and-son team back together. You can never get too much Rowena (Ruth Connell) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard). It was fun to have so much focus on several different baddies in Supernatural.

In the process, he ends up getting closer to his old nemesis than he expected. While Sam gets reacquainted with the Great Deceiver, Dean gets to know the Darkness a little better. Sam and Dean aren’t the only ones concerned about the Darkness. Will the middle-management angels reinvigorate their warrior reputation?

Dean Sam Sully Supernatural Just My ImaginationIn Season 11, Episode 8 of Supernatural, “Just My Imagination,” we get a Monster of the Week episode in which the monster isn’t quite what you’d expect. “Just My Imagination” was both funny and heartfelt. The episode didn’t move the Season 11 story arc along very much, but allowed for some emotional moments grounded in Sam’s fears about his visions and the Cage. “Just My Imagination” was directed by Richard Speight, Jr., who plays Gabriel in the Supernatural series. Speight does a fantastic job playing up the best parts of this humorous tale.

Season 11 of Supernatural has been a powerhouse due to great writing, acting, and directing. Episode 8 of Season 11, “Just My Imagination,” will be directed by former series guest star Richard Speight Jr. Speight previously co-directed the film North Beach (2000). He also wrote and directed the comedic short America 101 (2013).  This will be Speight’s first time directing an episode of Supernatural.
