With “JSS,” The Walking Dead moved Season 6 into high gear with a shocking, action-packed episode. “JSS” was directed by Jennifer Lynch and written by Seth Hoffman. The narrative of the episode held strong throughout all of the action, conveying a lot of information about quite a few characters while also keeping us on the edge of our seats. “JSS” exemplified the “show, don’t tell” approach that is the strength of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead S06E01 Recap: First Time Again
8The Walking Dead returns for its 6th season with premiere episode “First Time Again.” The episode starts off showing Rick Grimes and his crew leading a mission to deal with a massive herd of walkers. It flashes between their current predicament and various scenes that have taken place since the Season 5 finale, “Conquer.” Thus The Walking Dead gives us a sense of the aftermath of Rick killing Pete and of Morgan’s arrival in Alexandria. Those days or weeks leading to this attempt to shepherd hundreds of walkers out past Alexandria haven’t been easy. “First Time Again” gives us a chance to see where The Walking Dead characters we know have landed and to meet some other Alexandria residents.

Supernatural S11E02 Recap: Form and Void
2
“Form and Void” continues the story of Supernatural’s Season 11 premiere, “Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire.” Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) has delivered Deputy Jenna Nickerson (Laci J Mailey) and baby Amara to Jenna’s grandmother (Christine Willes), while Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) searches for a cure for the deadly supernatural infection affecting him and others around Superior, Nebraska. Castiel (Misha Collins) is still cursed by Rowena’s attack dog spell, and the angel assistance he’s received isn’t exactly a rescue. Crowley (Mark Sheppard) has learned the Darkness has been unleashed and can’t help but wonder, what’s in it for him? Weaving the initial story, which centered on the mysterious infection, into two episodes helps to provide the space needed for our characters to settle into the new reality. “Form and Void” was written by Andrew Dabb and directed by Phillip Sgriccia.

0Supernatural: Jensen Ackles, Director
3Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles is more than a pretty face. He’s a skilled actor who can convey complex emotions, deliver dialogue with great humor, and scare the bejesus out of the viewer. Ackles’ portrayal of Dean Winchester on Supernatural has contributed to the program’s decade-long success.
Doctor Who S09E04 Recap: Before the Flood
1
The 4th episode of Doctor Who, “Before the Flood,” is the follow up to the cliffhanger episode “Under the Lake.” Both episodes were written by Toby Whithouse and directed by Daniel O’Hara. Doctor Who seems to be trying some slightly meta approaches: speaking directly to the audience; and using one of the characters as more than a fan girl, but as a representation of the audience.
Supernatural S11E01 Recap: Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire
2
The Season 11 premiere of Supernatural, “Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire,” picks up right where we left off in the Season 10 finale “Brother’s Keeper.” During Season 10 Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) negotiated a deal with Superwitch Rowena (Ruth Connell) to cast a spell releasing his brother Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) from the Mark of Cain, which resulted in the Darkness being unleashed. Before Rowena left, she made her feelings about her son clear by casting an attack-dog spell on Castiel (Misha Collins) so he would kill Mummy’s little darling Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Season 11 begins with the oncoming storm of the Darkness about to descend on Sam and Dean.
