Season 11 of Supernatural has been a powerhouse due to great writing, acting, and directing. Episode 8 of Season 11, “Just My Imagination,” will be directed by former series guest star Richard Speight Jr. Speight previously co-directed the film North Beach (2000). He also wrote and directed the comedic short America 101 (2013). This will be Speight’s first time directing an episode of Supernatural.
The much-anticipated series Marvel’s Jessica Jones recently debuted on Netflix, with 13 episodes, ready for binge-watching. The series was created by Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter, The OC, Party of Five) and is based on the character from Marvel’s Alias comics. Jessica Jones is an exciting series that you don’t want to miss.
Nothing adds drama like including a Caledonian in the cast. While some of our favorite actresses on television hail from the Highlands, others were raised in the Scottish Lowlands. We can’t get enough of these talented lasses.
If you just finished watching The Walking Dead “Heads Up,” let the rejoicing begin and leave the recriminations for later. “Heads Up” resolved the question of Glenn’s survival, while leaving us wondering how the Alexandrians will survive the herd incursion. Season 6 of The Walking Dead has given us series of very unfortunate events taking place over two days. Some days are definitely worse than others.
“Face the Raven” leaves us mourning the loss of another Doctor Who companion with the death of Clara Oswald. Though it had been announced that Jenna Coleman would be leaving Doctor Who in Season 9, closing out Clara Osgood’s chapter through death makes her departure stand out. “Face the Raven” is a strong episode not only because of the loss of companion Clara, but also because it’s grounded with the return of Rigsy and heightened with the appearance of Ashildr. It’s also fantastic because the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) changes into a maroon velvet jacket after the youth apparel he’s been wearing lately is destroyed during an adventure with Clara.
In “Plush,” Supernatural gives us a fun yet heartbreaking episode with a clown, a giant killer rabbit, a court jester mascot, and a threatening deer. It’s fun not only because it plays on Sam’s clown phobia, but because Briana Buckmaster returns as our favorite Minnesotan, Sheriff Donna Hanscum. We first met Donna in Season 9 when Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) were investigating a pishtaco. Then she returned for the Season 10 episode “Hibbing 911.” After the serious, plot-advancing story in “Our Little World,” did Supernatural do well to give us a costume drama set in the land of 10,000 lakes? You betcha!
During most of Season 6 The Walking Dead has been showing us the events over a couple days, and episode 6, “Always Accountable,” continues that pattern. Except for the Morgan-centric episode “Here’s Not Here,” the present timeline started with the practice run at the quarry and has ended with Alexandria surrounded by walkers. The biggest question on everyone’s mind is—was that Glenn calling for help on the radio?
“The Zygon Inversion” was full of suspense and moral reflection, the things we love about Doctor Who. In “The Zygon Invasion,” the presidential plane had been shot down, leaving us to wonder how the Doctor and Osgood would survive. Though we know the Doctor must survive, it was still shocking to see the visage of Clara firing a bazooka towards the plane. “The Zygon Inversion” picks up here, showing us not only these events on the ground, but how the real Clara, trapped in the Zygon pod, comes to understand what’s going on through the mental link she has with the Zygon Bonnie who has taken on her form.
In “Our Little World” the boys get one step closer to learning more about Supernatural’s greatest mystery—the Darkness. Castiel (Misha Collins) finally tracks down Metatron (Curtis Armstrong), but the fomer scribe of God is pretty settled in his new life. The teenage version of the Darkness, Amara (Samantha Isler), on the other hand, is much less satisfied by the life Crowley (Mark Sheppard) is offering her. “Our Little World” was written by Robert Berens and directed by John Showalter, both experienced members of the Supernatural family.
